I have been thinking a lot lately about how badly I wish the weather would turn warm and sunny. This Winter in the NW has been too long, too dark and too cold. I loved all the snow, but at this point in April, I just want sunshine and weather that doesn't require a down jacket!
We went to the "shack" this weekend and spent hours working on the neglected yard. Just simple lawn (moss) mowing and weeding always makes it look so much better. Even though the sun wasn't out, I didn't want to leave. It has made me pine for summer even more, when we pick berries, eat whatever is fresh from the local farms, ride my bike for hours, cook on the grill and lay in the hammock watching the ships go by.
It is time to start planning our summer projects. Usually there is one big item and then some small ones. Unfortunately the big projects that we have left require a contractor and hiring for work on the island has been difficult. The bulkhead repair and the floor replacement have been in a holding pattern for years. I would love to get one of these done this year.
As for the smaller items, I wish the DutchTub didn't cost so much, it would be the perfect addition to the place. But instead I am thinking about hiring a landscape architect to build some plans to terrace the hill side to the North, including stairs and a patio, which someday will topped with the DutchTub when shipping doesn't cost 1k!

I have long admired the works of Studio Violet. These ladies' work is enchanting, imaginative and amusing. I just bought these latest prints, but their re-used porcelain collection is definitely worth checking out as well.

My love/hate relationship with Jcrew continues. I love love love their new summer collection. The colors are so beautiful. I adore the smokey blues, the greys, the perfectly burnt oranges. I have never coveted a bathing suit before (not a useful item in the NW) but this tank couldn't be any more modern and elegant.
Perhaps I will give them one more chance to get the customer service, on-site reliability and user experience right. The amount of site issues and service outages they have had over the recent months are mind numbing. In this economy I am surprised they didn't make it more of a priority. But I guess if you have the first family as your spokes-models you can get away with more than most online retailers, there is no doubt they wear it well.
