blood orange

DSC_1734 DSC_1703G's sister got him the kitchen aid ice cream maker attachment for his birthday. Yep, she is awesome!

We have gotten hooked on making sorbet and haven't made it to gelato or ice cream yet, but I am sure their turns will come. Sorbet is surprisingly easy to make and tastes amazing when you juice your own in-season fruit. Last week we made meyer lemon sorbet. It was tart, which I love, but G and S complained. Oh well, more for me!

This week I made blood orange sorbet. The color turned out a beautiful rich dark red and the flavor is so delicious. A perfect pick me up for the middle of winter. We used this recipe which turned out perfect. Not too tart and not too sweet.

Next time I am thinking mint......

sweet nothings

DSC_1666
No these are not gift tags. They could be if you used them that way, but I prefer to think of them as sweet nothings. I thought they would be sweet to print and hang all over the house, hide in lunch boxes, pockets, school bag........... So all day someone special would know you were thinking about them. Each back has a different little sweet nothing in German, Spanish or French!

heart

DSC_1426I decided to cross stitch a little heart from the postcard pattern. I attached a tie of braided floss so I could hang it. I think it would be so cute hanging from a door knob, dresser pull or coat hook. It is only about 2-3" so it stitches up really fast!

valentine's postcard

DSC_1354
I have posted a new cross stitch postcard for Valentine's day, just in time to print a few up and get them in the mail or stitch one up for a sweet little treat. It would be cute as a center panel for a pillow, a zipper pouch, or even the back of a pot holder.

mexican hot chocolate

DSC_1199 hot chocolateSnow always makes me think of hot chocolate! Unfortunately my store was out of my favorite kind so I had to wait till today to get some. I love mexican hot chocolate. The cinnamon just makes it a whole new experience, one way more tasty then the usual. If you haven't tried it before, you must! Make some for your sweetheart this Valentine's day or make yourself a cup for dessert.

Hot Chocolate Syrup

  • 3 rounds Ibarra Chocolate
  • 1/8 cup boiling water

Chop your chocolate into small pieces. Place bits in blender and add boiling water. Mix until liquid. Add more water if necessary. Store in airtight jar.

Mexican Hot Chocolate

  • Hot Chocolate Syrup
  • Milk

Add milk to pan and heat over medium high. Add 2 Tbsp of syrup for each cup of milk. When heated, pour and serve.

If you like it spicy, add a little heat with ground chili's.

snow day

P1040953 P1040938Today we had a snow day, which turns out to be just a funny way of saying "working from home". We got out and about a little though. Taking Abby on walks to the park so she can run around like a nut with a snow mustache. She loves the snow just like Maggie did, which makes me so happy because I LOVE snow too! In fact I stayed up most of the night on snow watch waiting for it to start!

It was also good to be home with Julia. Her surgery went very well. The swelling and bruising were gone in a few days and she was starting to put weight on her new knee. Until Saturday afternoon when she had an accident running to the window to bark at someone going by. She slipped going around the sofa and injured her knee. We spend Sunday and Monday at the vet having her looked at and getting x-rays. The good news is the plate and pins are all where they should be. The bad news is she is in a lot of pain, so we are doubling her medication and she has become zombie dog. Poor little girl!
